Faith-Based Organizations in the Supply Chain of Healthcare- COVID-19 and the vaccine revealed vaccine hesitancy distrust of the health care at alarming rates among African Americans. In the city of Baltimore something unique happened. Because of this challenge an effort was born to address this issue that may prove to be key to unlocking the door of reduced health care cost, improved clinical quality and a reduction in health inequities in all settings. The LUKAN model is progress born out of pain.

The Society’s Top Policy Issues of 2022 -Updates on the Society’s top policy issues including the following: legislative advocacy, communications with federal agencies and updates on COVID-19 advocacy priorities.

Presenters

1Suzanne Gillespie MD, RD, CMD, is Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Geriatrics/Aging and Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. Dr. Gillespie is Associate Chief of Staff for Geriatrics Extended Care & Rehabilitation and serves as Medical Director of the Community Living Center (nursing home) of the Canandaigua VA Medical Center in the Finger Lakes VA Healthcare System. She coordinates the Research and Development program of the healthcare system and is lead physician of the patient safety program.

1Alex Bardakh, MPP, PLC, is the Director of Public Policy and Advocacy for AMDA – The Society. Mr. Bardakh works for the Society’s extensive Public Policy agenda through Advocacy in Congress and numerous Federal Agencies. A graduate from the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) in Political Science/Psychology and Master’s Degree in Public and Legal Policy, Mr. Bardakh has extensive experience in health policy with a specific focus on areas such as payment models and quality of care initiatives. He has been a recognized national speaker on healthcare policy and has spoken at national conferences throughout the country.

1Michele Bellantoni MD, CMD, is an associate professor of medicine and clinical director of the Division of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She also is medical director of Specialty Hospital Programs at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. Dr. Bellantoni is the recipient of the 2020 James Pattee Award for Excellence in Education, President of the Mid-Atlantic Medical Directors Association, a member of the AMDA Education Committee and co-chair of the AMDA Public Policy Committee.

AMDA – The Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

CMD: This self-study activity has been pre-approved by the American Board of Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine (ABPLM) for a total of 2.0 management hours toward certification or recertification as a Certified Medical Director (CMD) in post-acute and long-term care medicine. The CMD program is administered by the ABPLM. Each physician should claim only those hours of credit actually spent on the activity.

ABIM Maintenance of Certification (MOC): Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 2.0 Medical Knowledge MOC points and patient safety credit in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program.

Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.
