This webinar will provide an overview of best practice approaches to the prevention of infections in assisted living (AL) settings and discuss ways to ensure clinical management of the residents living in those settings. The webinar will be relevant to all of those who manage and provide care to individuals in these settings or want to learn more about the AL setting.

- State three approaches to help prevent infections in AL settings.
- Identify three ways to provide optimal medical management of residents in AL settings.
- Discuss the pros and cons to having medical care and/or a medical director within AL settings.
- Describe optimal staff considerations for AL settings.

Speaker(s): Sarah Howd, MD; Barbara Resnick, PhD, CRNP
Sarah Howd, MD, CMD, is an assistant professor of medicine at the University of Rochester Medical Center. Her practice focuses on the primary care of patients in independent and AL facilities. Dr. Howd is a certified medical director and serves as the medical director of seven local assisted living communities, as well as being the associate medical director of the UR Medicine Geriatrics Group's Senior Living Practice. She serves as the chair of AMDA – The Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine’s Subcommittee for Assisted Living and is an active Tideswell Scholar for the American Geriatrics Society Emerging Leaders in Aging Fellowship.
Barbara Resnick, PhD, CRNP, is a professor in the Department of Organizational Systems and Adult Health at the University of Maryland School of Nursing, co-directs the Biology and Behavior Across the Lifespan Research Center of Excellence, holds the Sonya Ziporkin Gershowitz Chair in Gerontology, and does clinical work at Roland Park Place. Dr. Resnick serves as the vice chair of AMDA – The Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine’s Subcommittee for Assisted Living.
